Amazing Spaces® Storage Center Area Residents Donate Funds to Support Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Partner with Texas Self Storage Association.

Houston, Spring, the Medical Center and The Woodlands communities joined Amazing Spaces® Storage Centers to show how easily an individual can make a difference in a child’s life. On September 1st, we launched our annual “Make a Difference” Donation Campaign in which we asked our customers, associates, friends, and families to donate to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston. In six short weeks, we were able to raise $959.00. This is no small feat and we are proud to operate within communities who care so much for others. To show our appreciation to our communities for their contributions, Amazing Spaces matched the total amount donated, bringing the final donated figure to $1,918.00.

The “Make a Difference” Donation Campaign was launched by the Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) in 2001. The TSSA annually calls on their members to participate in the campaign by asking customers to donate. Amazing Spaces Storage Centers joined the effort in 2004 and together we have risen over $350,000 as of 2011. The donation campaign is inspired by the story of a young girl seen furiously throwing starfish back into the ocean to try to save a few out of the thousands that were caught on shore once the tide receded.  While others may scoff at the futility of the task, the young girl goes on undaunted, wanting to make a difference to at least one starfish.  The story illustrates that while one person cannot possibly save the thousands of helpless starfish on the beach, with just a little effort one person can affect the life of one or maybe even a few.  We believe that if we all adopt this mentality, together, we can make a substantial difference in the lives of many children.

“We are always so excited each year to help this wonderful charity that has been providing a wonderful service to children in our area since 1960”  said Kathy Tautenhahn, Vice President of Amazing Spaces.  All proceeds go directly to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston. The 2012 TSSA Make a Difference campaign ended at the annual convention that was held in San Antonio from October 14 – 16, 2012. A charity poker tournament, live auction, and silent auction took place to also raise funds to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Shriners Hospitals for Children® is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients’ ability to pay.
