2020 Organization hacks

This year’s best organization tips!

Organization tips, there’s a lot of them out there, but, which ones actually work? We’re breaking it down and helping you create organizational habits that will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on all that 2020 has to offer!

Develop a routine—Having a routine for each day can truly make all the difference! Waking and going to sleep around the same time each day helps get your body into a consistent system which is good for your physical and mental health! How does routine play into organization? It actually plays a large role! When you develop a routine that you follow closely, you’re able to move from task to task more fluidly rather than being in a frenzy and making a larger mess than needed! For instance, if you have a routine of exactly where you put your keys and coat when you get home from work each night—you avoid dumping them on the counter. Or, if you plan to pre-make your coffee the night before, you get in the habit of cleaning out the coffee carafe and machine each night in preparation for the next day! Getting rhythms established truly helps in the overall organization of your life!

Utilize a pegboard—This may be one of our simplest but favorite organization hacks! Pegboards serve as a multi-purpose area that allows you to save space through re-arrangeable hooks and rods to hold everything from office supplies to art projects. This is the perfect addition to any home office or even kitchen area that you’re looking to keep more tidy! (And, you can make them cute with your own personal style!)

Label—Labeling items can truly save you time when you’re in a hurry and looking for something specific! Invest in an economical label maker or this simple organization hack— use wide, clear mailing tape and write on top of it with a sharpie marker for an easy and temporary label!

Family calendar—It’s the digital age where we can easily share calendars over mobile devices, but, we are certainly fans of a good old fashioned wall calendar as well! Utilizing multiple calendars can help you stay on top of things. A great way to do this is through using wall space in a main living area in your home to hang a large white board. Create a calendar template and change it out each month. In addition you can list things like “to do” and weekly meal plans. This serves as a quick and easy “go to” spot that the whole family can check-in to! Plan to discuss the upcoming week as a family before it starts so you can make sure you’re all on the same page!

DIY chore charts—Many hands make for light work! Get the whole family involved in pitching in, even from a young age! Check out this adorable DIY Chore Chart made from cookie sheets and magnets! This interactive chart helps you stay organized and makes it easy for the kiddos to keep track of what needs to be done!

Start with a system—Whether you choose to follow the Marie Kondo method or create your very own form of de-cluttering. It’s important to have a system in place that lends itself to long-term success! Come up with a specific plan and if it’s working, stick to it! For example, for every new toy that comes into the house, an old one is to be donated. Or, buy a new piece of furniture? Re-purpose or donate another that’s not being used and just taking up space! Having a plan will help you stay organized over time!

Storage—Determine what spaces in your home will be designated storage spaces(ie: attic, garage, outdoor shed)! Then, plan out exactly what type of storage you’ll use for each. Whether it’s wall storage, plastic totes, floating shelves, baskets, you name it! Having the right tools on hand before starting your project will be vital to your success!
