When to Use RV Storage Over Traditional Storage

Homeowners in Texas might decide to design their home and yard so that they can store their motorhome and keep it away from the eyes of neighbors. This can be a fantastic solution with easy access to use the RV year-round. Yet, paying the extra costs for the construction to have a functional place to store an RV at home when it’s not on the road can be extremely pricey.

A Better Way To Store Your RV

Depending on the size of your RV or camper, it can make a lot more sense to store it in an RV storage facility. RV storage facilities not only have 24-hour security coverage, they are also typically located in places where your motorhome will be much safer from any natural disasters. In other words, if your home is exposed to fire, flooding or any other natural disaster, you won’t find the same level of risk in an RV storage facility.

Here are some tips on determining the most efficient and effective storage solution for your needs:

Large Motorhomes

rv storageIf you have a motorhome that is based on a bus or semi-truck chassis, it is typically going to be close to 30 feet in length. Your neighbors may love you, but unless you build a complete RV terminal for it, your neighbors might start to complain. Since these motorhomes are large enough to cause reactions, it is considered neighborhood etiquette to use local RV storage facilities to keep them safe and secure when they are not in use. Premium self-storage places have enclosures that are specifically designed for your size RV, with electrical outlets for maintaining battery charging. They also protect your RV from the type of weather problems that you can encounter when you leave your large vehicle exposed to the elements.

It may also be helpful to look at Craig’s List and view some older RVs that are for sale. You will most likely notice that the majority of inexpensive vehicles are those that were stored outside and look worn from weather and environmental damage.

5th Wheel

Many people fall in love with the concept of the 5th wheel trailer. It is like an RV, but it has a large trailer hitch that attaches directly to your truck. You can, therefore, use your truck separately or as a tow unit. If you have a neighborhood association, you will often find that strict rules about storing 5th wheel trailers are one of the items that are near the top of their list.

So, just like large motorhomes, many people tend to send their 5th wheel trailers into storage at an RV storage facility so that they can enjoy their backyard. RV storage facilities tend to be a lot less expensive compared to storing them at home.

Van or Passenger Truck Chassis Motorhomes

The majority of other types of motor homes and campers available are designs that are based on the body of a passenger van or truck. They can be as long as 25 feet, although most of them are designed to fit into a large garage RV Storageor a fenced in area.

If you have a smaller place to live and a smaller trailer or RV, you might want to consider storing it in an RV storage place. You will save on storage fees locally. Many condominiums and apartments offer storage for an extra fee. That fee is usually larger than you would pay to store a small trailer or motor home at an RV storage facility. Especially in cities like Houston, The Woodlands, and Spring, Texas. For storage space in an elite facility in Houston, and the surrounding communities, you can normally pay less than you would pay for renting a small garage in your apartment complex or condominium.

Finding the best place to store your RV is never an easy decision. Many people prefer to keep it at home despite the opposition from their neighbors. If you have a large RV, a small space to store it in, or strict neighborhood requirements, the most cost-effective way of storing it is to find an RV storage facility.

The smaller your motorhome, the more options you would have to store it locally or at a facility. The key thing to remember is why you have the RV in the first place. If you find yourself spending too much money or time at home to create an environment that enables you to store your RV, it probably is a good time to shop around for some storage quotes.

We just recently bought an RV this summer, and before winter comes we want to make sure that we have a good place to keep it safe. It’s good to know that there are storage facilities that specialize in keeping these kinds of vehicles safe. This might be the best option for us, that way we won’t run out of room on our small driveway.

Thanks for letting us know that if we have a larger vehicle like a motorhome, we should definitely use an RV storage facility since it is proper neighborhood etiquette. My husband and I just bought a new motorhome, and we are wondering if we should keep it at our house or in some other place. We will definitely have to keep our new vehicle in an RV storage facility so that our neighbors remain happy.
