Palacios

Palacios is just a couple hours drive away from Houston. For most Texans, Palacios is the best place to indulge in seafood because it’s the shrimp capital of the state. Fishers in this lovely town set out for the waters every morning and sail back every evening with fresh seafood. The view is picturesque from any of the many restaurant patios overlooking the sea. However, it’s the shrimp that brings tourists here—the shrimp is always fresh and delicious.

The locals are also friendly, and you can do fun activities such as sailing. Palacios offers a nice weekend break away from the hustle and bustle of Houston.

San Antonio

San Antonio is just a few hours away from Houston. It’s a lovely city with a lot of friendly folks. One of its most popular attractions is the river walk. Tourists often visit the city to simply take a serene stroll along the river or canoe its gentle waters. It’s also popular for its delicious Tex-Mex cuisine, and the service is simply unrivaled.

San Antonio also has a lot to see including historic buildings such as The Alamo and modern art museums. Fun activities you can indulge in include a visit to Sea World. For one of the best BBQ places in all of Texas, we recommend visiting The Big Bib BBQ. The brisket and rib tips are worth the trip alone, seating can be tricky though, plan accordingly.

Corpus Christi is characterized by its deep-blue waters surrounded by picturesque beaches.

Corpus Christi offers unlimited fun if you’re a fan of water sports. Alternatively, you can take it easy and just enjoy the refreshing water with a swim at the shores and dry off by basking on the beach; don’t forget to pack your sunscreen. Other fun activities include hiking, visiting parks, and exploring the art museum.

For a laid back cafe/brunch spot go to one of Hester’s Cafe & Coffee Bar’s three locations. They serve breakfast and lunch all day, the prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious.

Dallas

Dallas is popular for its numerous museums and historic sites that tell of the frontier’s historic fight for America, much like Houston. However, it also offers a unique experience compared to Houston and is definitely worth a visit.

The Dallas World Aquarium is always inspiring to visit as it exhibits a wide range of sea creatures. The Dallas Zoo, on the other hand, showcases a wide range of animal species from the majestic African elephant to fierce lions. For nature enthusiasts, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden offers a serene and calm experience as you stroll through the pristine landscape of natural vegetation. You can also get in touch with your history by taking a tour of the city’s (as well as the State’s) historic sites and monuments.

If you need to get some work done during your trip, visit The Common Desk. They have a coworking space with a vibrant remote working community in Deep Ellum, Oak Cliff, West Plano, and a new location in Fort Worth opening soon.
