Our A-Team’s Favorite Christmas Traditions
We thought it would be fun to share our A-Team’s favorite Christmas traditions as we continue to count down to Christmas 2021. From Christmas Eve hibachi dinners to visiting a Christmas tree farm, it’s clear our crew has some fabulous Christmas traditions. Grab a cup of cocoa and snuggle in with this latest blog post. Sabrina’s Storybook Christmas Tradition
As a child, my mother would buy me new Christmas pajamas and a Christmas story book. On Christmas eve, wearing my new pajamas, she would read me a story from the book, and we would eat hot baked cookies and drink milk or hot cocoa. I always looked forward to it when I was younger.
We passed this tradition on to the new younger generation. When I would go to my Grandparent’s house on my dad’s side, the weekend after Thanksgiving, the family would go up to the mountains and cut our own Christmas tree. Afterwards, that evening, Grandma would bake up special treats to eat and we would decorate the tree.
The tradition my husband and I started was the last weekend before Christmas, we would drive around in our neighborhood or neighborhood close by and check out the Christmas decorations/lights while drinking hot chocolate or a latte from Starbucks. We sometimes invite other family members and/or friends.
Nick’s Positively Idyllic Christmas Tree Tradition
When we moved to Tomball in 2015, we found Old Christmas Tree Farm. It’s a pretty neat place where you can chop down your own tree. Every Christmas season since 2015, we go to Old Christmas Tree Farm to chop down our own Christmas Tree, take pictures with Santa, and take part in the amazing activities that they have there.
When it’s time to head home, we turn up the Christmas music, make hot chocolate and decorate the Tree with Charlie Brown muted on the TV. I look forward to it every year!
Kathy’s Picture-Perfect Church & Hibachi Christmas Tradition
Our tradition is Christmas Eve Candlelight service, followed by dinner at a hibachi restaurant because no one wants to cook on Christmas eve. We then drive around to look at the holiday lights and home to put out cookies/snacks for Santa and the reindeer. As the kids got older, they still wanted the cookies for “Santa” every morning they are gone.
Brandon’s Delightfully Delicious Christmas Tradition
My favorite Christmas tradition is baking cookies with the family. Not only do you get to make amazing memories, but you get to eat tasty treats while you’re at it! Of course, I needed to include a bonus recipe of my FAVORITE Christmas cookie!
Jamborees
- 1 cup soft butter
- ½ lb cream cheese
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 cups sifted flour
- ½ tsp vanilla
- ¼ tsp salt
Cream butter and cream cheese. Add sugar and vanilla and beat. Blend flour and salt in with fingers. Wrap on wax paper for a few hours or overnight. Roll out the dough as thin as possible. (1/8”) Cut dough into 2” squares. Place a VERY small amount of jam (not jelly-it is too runny) into the center of each square. Close 2 ends to the center and form the cookie. Place in 400-degree oven for 8 minutes.
Kelsey’s Christmas Market Bonanza Tradition
My favorite tradition is attending as many Christmas festivals and markets as humanly possible! When I was young, my family would always attend the Hometown Christmas festival where all the business decorated for the holidays and held open houses. When my sister and I were teenagers, my mom started a new tradition of taking us into Chicago to eat in front of the Christmas tree at the Walnut room in Marshall Field’s and then exploring the German Christmas market right outside.
My husband and I also love traveling, so we eagerly take on any opportunity to extend this tradition internationally. I have enjoyed attending Christmas markets in Spain, Portugal, and Hungary! In the past decade since I moved to Houston, my mom and I started a new tradition: the Nutcracker Market at NRG. It’s one of my favorite ways to kick off the holiday season!
Cindy’s Sensational Christmas Tree Lighting Tradition
We love to go the tree lighting and Christmas on Main in Conroe every year. We’ll walk around and explore all the decorated shop windows (and even do some shopping!). Afterwards, we’ll stop and listen to the carolers singing our holiday favorite tunes. Downtown Conroe really comes alive during this fun event!
You can’t help but feel all the Christmas magic between the lights, decorations and, sometimes, even snow!
Patricia’s Present-Filled Christmas Eve Tradition
My favorite Christmas tradition started five years ago with my first grandchild. He gets a Christmas Eve box from Granny every year. It gives him the chance to open one gift that evening and I put ‘quiet’ things in it such as pajamas, a stuffed animal, a book, a Christmas mug with hot chocolate mix, personalized ornament, etc.
Not only does it give him one present to open, but it also gives us time together to read a book and share a cup of hot chocolate together. Christmas really is all about being with loved ones and making memories!
